Celebrating our valley
In addition to creating world class tourism and recreational facilities, the project will benefit local people.
The Tamar Valley offers an unrivalled educational and training resource, but one which, to a large degree, is untapped at present.
This Project will enable provision of an extensive education and interpretation programme to improve the understanding and enjoyment of the area by local residents and visitors, using local craftspeople and artists.
Supporting the local economy
Ensuring that in the short and long term, local businesses benefit from the work.
- Improvements to Morwellham Quay, one of the main tourist attractions in the area, which has seen a decline in visitor numbers in recent years
- Increase the number and expenditure of visitors to the area
- Establishing an environmental trust to help look after the asset for the long term
Adding value
The Project is not only about visitors. The works will provide improvements to local infrastructure and services.
- Many community benefits, including employment, training and recreation
- Improvements to existing jetties and small quays on the river to develop ferry links and river passenger transport
- Construction of a new bridge over the River Tamar for walkers, connecting
important sites and trails on either side
of the Valley - Enable local people and businesses to benefit from the capital works programme
