The Tamar Valley Mining Heritage Project

A project to conserve, celebrate and tell the story of the Tamar Valley mining landscape

The Tamar Valley is one of England's finest landscapes, designated an Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty (AONB) in 1995. The partnership that is responsible for safeguarding the Valley has been successful in gaining nearly £6 million to invest in the Valley's valuable mining heritage - The Tamar Valley Mining Heritage Project

This much needed Project will ensure that both the individual mining features such as engine houses, mines, water wheels, chimneys and quaysides, and the spectacular landscapes within which they are set, are looked after for people to enjoy for many years to come.

The Project will be a celebration of the Valley's unique history and it will bring the mining history of the Tamar Valley alive through a series of brand new tracks and trails, innovative community education and arts programmes, and oral history projects.

The Project will ensure the mining heritage is fully accessible to all. This will be both 'on the ground' and through a variety of other initiatives including film-making, music production, and the training of volunteers.
